- Prioritize the physical and mental well-being of students by instructing on techniques safely and only advancing students when they are ready.
- Encourage a positive and inclusive atmosphere, making everyone feel welcome, regardless of skill level, gender, race, or background.
3. Communicate Respectfully and Effectively
- Use constructive feedback to help students progress, focusing on encouragement rather than criticism.
- Address any issues calmly and privately, respecting students’ confidentiality and personal boundaries.
4. Be a Role Model

- Embrace feedback from students and peers and be open to improving coaching techniques.
Student Conduct Policy
Students are essential members of the gym community, and their behavior contributes to a positive training environment. Students are expected to:
1. Show Respect to Coaches and Fellow Students
- Follow instructions from coaches without argument and respect their expertise and decisions.
- Treat fellow students with kindness, support, and courtesy, regardless of their skill level or background.
- Bow when entering and leaving the mat area as a sign of respect for the gym and tradition.
2. Maintain Personal Responsibility and Safety
- Tap out promptly when caught in a submission, and respect others who do the same, understanding that safety always comes first.
- Use controlled, focused energy during training to prevent injuries to yourself and others.
- Report any skin conditions, injuries, discomfort, or equipment issues to the coach immediately.

- Help keep the gym clean by wiping down equipment, picking up personal belongings, and treating the space with care.
5. Practice Integrity and Humility
- Show humility in victory and grace in defeat, recognizing that every training session is a learning opportunity.
- Avoid ego-driven behavior, competing with respect rather than aggression, and focusing on skill improvement over winning.
- Refrain from coaching others unless authorized by the instructor, trusting that feedback comes best from trained coaches.
6. Be Punctual and Prepared
- We understand that life happens, but please try to be on time for class and be prepared to start training at the scheduled time.

To foster a clean, respectful, and healthy training environment for everyone, all students are expected to adhere to the following hygiene standards:
1. Personal Hygiene
Nail Care: Keep fingernails and toenails trimmed short and filed to prevent injuries to training partners (or yourself).
Hair Management: Long hair should be tied back to avoid interference during training.
Hand Cleanliness: Please wash or sanitize your hands prior to stepping on the mats. Studies have proven that sanitizing hands prior to training (wrestling/BJJ) reduces the transmission of contagious conditions.
Daily Showering: Please arrive clean for class. Showers are available to use before class when that is not possible. Arriving fresh and clean helps maintain a pleasant environment for all.
2. Training Gear Cleanliness
Footwear Off the Mats: No shoes are allowed on the mats. Flip-flops or sandals should be worn when off the mats 100% of the time to prevent dirt from spreading.
Clean Gear Policy: All gis, rash guards, and other clothing must be washed after every training session. This prevents bacteria build-up and keeps our mats clean.
Replacement of Damaged Gear: Inspect your gear regularly for wear and tear. If gear is damaged (e.g., ripped gi or torn rash guard), replace it promptly to prevent injuries.
3. Health Awareness
Stay Home if You’re Sick: If you’re feeling unwell or showing symptoms of illness, please rest and recover at home until you're symptom-free.
Skin Conditions: Any contagious skin conditions (such as ringworm or staph infections) must be fully treated and cleared by a doctor before resuming training.
Cover Minor Cuts or Wounds: If you have small cuts, cover them securely with waterproof bandages before class to prevent exposure.
4. Mat and Equipment Cleanliness
Clean the Mats: Coaches will clean the sweep and spray the mats daily with an effective disinfectant to prevent transmission of illness or skin conditions.
Adhering to these hygiene guidelines protects everyone’s health and ensures a positive training environment. Thank you for helping keep our gym a safe, respectful, and enjoyable space!
