Zach Rennels
In 2008, Zach began his journey into mixed martial arts (MMA), eager to test himself in a new and exciting sport. As he immersed himself in MMA training, he soon realized that his true passion lay in the grappling aspect of the sport. The control, technique, and strategy involved in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu (BJJ) quickly became his focus. Not long after starting MMA, he made the decision to shift his full attention to grappling and BJJ, where he could truly develop his skills and teach others the art he had fallen in love with.
Throughout his grappling journey, Zach developed a deep respect for the importance of fundamentals. He believes that mastering the basics is the key to success in both competition and life. This principle is at the heart of his coaching style, where he emphasizes strong foundational techniques, discipline, and consistency. His cheerful and patient demeanor makes him especially effective when working with kids, and his enthusiasm for teaching has earned him the trust of students across all ages.
Before coaching BJJ, Zach spent several years coaching youth soccer, starting with first graders and eventually moving up to middle school levels. His experience with soccer further honed his ability to communicate effectively with young athletes and create a positive, engaging learning environment. Whether on the soccer field or the grappling mat, Zach always strives to create a supportive atmosphere where students can grow, learn, and have fun.
Today, Zach is known for his unwavering dedication to developing the next generation of grapplers. His ability to break down complex techniques into simple, manageable steps, paired with his infectious enthusiasm, makes him a beloved figure among students and parents alike. Whether he's teaching a group of first-graders or coaching experienced competitors, his focus on fundamentals, his love for the sport, and his genuine care for his students set him apart as a coach who is committed to both their athletic and personal growth.
